In his first CD, Freeman writes of the fear of three black men during the last US lynching in Marion, IL, about a mother’s feelings as she gives up her son for adoption, and the confusion of a soldier lost in the desert during the Spanish-American war.

“Mark Freeman is not the black soldier who chased Poncho Villa all over Mexico, nor is he a third-generation Irish stone-cutter with too much dust in his lungs…Listen to the songs that he sings, and you’d swear that he’s got some spooky spiritual channel that only he can hear…The husky-voiced Freeman has a knack for writing stories of love, sorrow and adventure.” -Scene Magazine
